Individuals who’ve suffered from whiplash are no stranger to its lasting effects. A painful injury that affects the neck, whiplash makes it difficult to perform everyday tasks, much less fully rest and recover. To treat whiplash, there are two main options. The first…let the pain and discomfort slowly pass with time and rest. The second…find the root cause, treat it, and heal it quickly and effectively. If you vote for the second option (we don’t blame you), then chiropractic care is for you. Keep reading to learn more…

What is whiplash?

Whiplash is an injury that occurs when the neck is thrust forward and back quickly and forcefully. Car accidents are the most common cause of whiplash, however, any scenario that causes the neck to move in such a manner can result in this type of injury. Common symptoms of whiplash include:

  • Soreness and pain in the neck
  • Restricted range of motion
  • Intense stiff neck

A whiplash injury can range anywhere from mild to severe based, and the course of treatment is customized to meet the individual needs of each patient.

How does chiropractic care treat whiplash?

At Burghealth Chiropractic and Wellness, we understand the pain and discomfort associated with whiplash and therefore use a gentle approach to treat this type of injury. The first step to healing is through our rehabilitation services which include stretching the neck muscles and corrective exercises (performed in our clinic and at home).

Once the neck has regained strength, we move on to a series of spinal manipulations in which a highly trained member of our chiropractic care team performs gentle pushes to realign the spine – a practice that eliminates stress and pressure caused by spinal misalignment and allows the spine and neck to begin the healing process.
