Pre-Game Warm Up

We get it. You’re excited to hit the course, but that doesn’t mean you should skip the pre-golf warm-up. In fact, it could hurt your game if you don’t. Why? Because warming up before you play activates your proprioceptors (sensory receptors that receive stimuli from the body to respond to position and movement), and this helps with the reflexive movement that comes with golfing. Using Power Plate to warm up quickly increases blood flow and engages the central nervous system to trigger the appropriate response in the muscle so your body is ready to swing, putt, and pitch.

Here are the most effective Power Plate warm-up drills for golf:

  • Foot Sensory Activation: Stimulate the proprioceptors on the bottom of your feet by placing one foot at a time on the Power Plate platform. This will dramatically improve swing power and mobility by increasing circulation and activating the sensors at the bottom of your feet for a better ground force reaction.
  • Hip Stretches: Loosen up the hips in all three planes with Power Plate hip hinges. With one foot at a time on the Power Plate platform, move your hips left to right, and end with a hip rotation.
  • Shoulder Stretch: Using the Power Plate static straps, rotate the palms of your hands to face backward for an additional stretch in the forearms. Then lengthen the strap, palms facing forward, and rotate side to side pulling the strap apart.

Training & Stretches

Whether a professional or casual enthusiast, anyone who plays golf can benefit from training with Power Plate. At our St. Petersburg chiropractic care center, we utilize the following movements to help clients improve their performance on the golf course:

  • Mobility Movements: We recommend starting with mobility movements to warm up the body such as dynamic stretches through the hamstrings, ankle, hip, and T-spine.
  • Balance Exercises: When it comes to executing a successful golf swing, balance is key, and therefore, so are balance exercises. We like the weight shift exercise, performed on the Power Plate platform while holding a light weight in each hand.
  • Strength & Power Movements: Mimicking golf swing exercises is a great way to improve mobility. To do so, stand in a split position on the Power Plate platform and do a woodchop/swing motion while controlling the motion.
